When it comes to working out especially if you’re new to it, usually the first thing we tend to concentrate on building is our chest. A well built chest takes a lot of work and persistence but is well worth it, when you finally get that well developed huge chest. The most popular form of working out the chest is the bench press, however; if you want to get well an overall well developed chest there are other exercises that you should be doing.
Flat bench pressThis is probably one of the best mass building exercises for the chest. The bench press targets your entire chest and is definitely a must do exercise if your going to be building your chest. I have found that using dumbbells instead of barbells actually works better as you can get a better ROM (range of motion).
Incline bench pressSo often, people who work out their chest area pay very little attention to the upper chest. The incline press is just like the bench press only the bench is set to about 30-40 degrees. The incline bench press focuses on the upper chest and again is better with dumbbells. Building your upper chest is important as it builds the part of your chest that ties into your front deltoids.
Decline bench pressThis is just another variation of the flat bench press that mainly focuses on your lower chest. This exercise is good for building depth to your lower chest. A lot of time this variation is not necessary as most people are lagging in their upper chest region.
Flyes (incline & normal)Dumbbell flyes are a great way to build your chest thickness as well as build up the inner pecs. It is important to really concentrate on going for full range of motion as this will really stretch and use those hard to work inner chest muscles.
Sample Routines4 X 8-10 flat bench press
3 X 8-10 incline bench
2 X 10-12 flyes (flat, incline)
2 X 8-10 decline bench press
3 X 8-10 flat bench press
4 X 8-10 incline bench press
3 X 10-12 flyes (flat, incline)
2 X 8-10 decline bench press
Just remember that building a well developed chest is going to take time and persistence, but if you stick to compound exercises as listed above, you will be able to build a well developed impressive chest. So until next time train hard and don’t give up.
