Working out is one of the best forms in my opinion to relieve stress and to gain energy. The feeling you get after a great workout is a feeling of accomplishment and is one of the best feelings around. Working out not only builds and tones muscles but it also helps to build your body’s endurance levels. Getting the most out of every workout is important as you want to see the maximum results for all of your efforts. Below are 7 tips to help you get the most out of your workout.
1. Change the intensity and/or type of exercisesThis is a very good way to keep your muscles guessing as to what they will have to endure next. By changing your workout routine or the intensity of the weights you are using you can really give your muscles a workout their not used to. It is recommended that you change your routine or intensity ever 6-8 weeks; that way your muscles don’t have time to become accustomed to the current routine; causing you to plateau.
2. Hire a personal trainerIf you are new to weight training, it is a good idea to hire a personal trainer even if its just for 1 or 2 times a week. A personal trainer has already done all of the learning about what works and what doesn’t. The use of a personal trainer can help you to achieve a more thorough workout as well as you can gain valuable tips on weight training safety as well.
3. Eat properly stay hydratedI don’t care how much you lift, or how often you lift. If you want to build muscle and grow you are going to have to eat properly and drink lots of water. If you are under nourished before working out you will not have the energy it takes to complete the workout as effectively as you could. After your workout your muscles are in much need of protein and carbohydrates in order to replenish their energy and start repairing the damage. Without this nutrition you will not be able to build muscle or lift properly.
4. Emphasize quality over quantityThis is often a huge issue in the gyms, I often see people get hurt because of this exact reason. It is not very wise nor is it going to do you any good to throw weight around that you can’t handle. The best way to effectively and thoroughly work your muscles is to lift a weight that is heavy but not overly heavy, in a slow concentrated manner. Good form is EVERYTHING just remember, it’s not how much you lift its how well you can lift it.
5. Get a workout partnerWorking out with a partner is certainly a lot safer and better than without one. A partner is good to have because he/she can motivate you and help to spot you so that you can push a bit more weight. However; you do want to make sure that you pick wisely or else it could also be distracting.
6. Emphasize breathingThis may seem kind of weird at first but breathing correctly actually does help you to handle the weight better. When you are doing the negative portion of the weight lifting motion you should be breathing in so as to feed your muscles the appropriate amount of oxygen their going to need in order to push the weight back up. When going through the positive motion of the exercise make sure to force the air out and use this to help give you the power you need to lift the weight.
7. Listen to musicListening to music can really help to increase your concentration and help to really pump you up and get you ready for a workout. It also helps to take your mind of the fatigue of your body so that you can lift a bit longer and really give your muscles something to cry about.
