When it comes to the topic of abs, it seems as though a good set of abs is what defines a “good physique”. Every day there are millions of people doing crunch after crunch, buying product after product, and spending hours of their time working out their abs, and after all that a lot of us notice little to no change. The reason for this lack of results is that there is one major detail that a lot of people are leaving out because they are unaware of it. This detail is what hinders us from developing their 6pack or that flat stomach they want.
It is important to note that all of those crunches and equipment you’re using is working in the sense that it is building up your abdominal muscles, but the reason that you are seeing little to no change is that on top of your abdominal muscles is a layer of fat that covers these muscles. It is because of this layer of fat that your abs are not as defined as they could be.
Research has show that in order to get defined abs that show you must achieve an overall body fat percentage of about 7%. Above all of those crunches and products that you use this is the part of the whole process that will be the most difficult to accomplish. In order to accomplish this percentage of body fat it will require that you eat healthy low fat foods and practice a good amount of aerobic exercise, so as to burn off that fat.
Before you even get the notion of working out just your stomach area in an attempt to get rid of the fat in that one spot let me just break it to you that this is impossible and wont work, so don’t waste your time and efforts. The whole idea of spot training is a myth and does not work. The way the body works is that it strips of fat in layers over your entire body, and because stomach fat in general is thicker than say on your arms, or face it takes longer for your stomach fat to be burned off.
One of the other problems that I see many times when people show me their workout routines is that there are hundreds of crunches and sit ups and that’s about it, Crunches and sit-ups are unfortunately not going to give you that complete set of abs, this is because there are different muscles that make up the abdominal region. You must do a combination of different exercises that hit all these different muscles as talked about in Abs 101.
As this excess fat is burned off you will start to notice that your abs are becoming more noticeable, as the skin starts to sink in to the grooves between the abdominal muscles. This will leave you with the abs or flat stomach that you have always dreamed of.
