The answer for this is absolutely. Some people are just naturally bigger boned and do in fact weigh more and will never be as skinny as somebody who has a smaller frame. However that does not mean that you have to be 100 lbs overweight. You have to look at the cards you were dealt and work with it so that you can achieve your goals.
2. What if medication makes me gain weight? If you’re somebody that suffers from being overweight due to a medical reason, or the medicine you have to take, as hard as it may be at times the best thing that I can suggest you can do is just try your best to manage your weight, and be at peace with it.
3. What about "magic" diets that promise quick results?I want to say that first of all this kind of thing does not exist, and anybody that tells you otherwise is trying to sell you something, and take advantage of your desire to lose weight. If you think about it for a minute you’ll realize that this dieting industry is a multi-billion dollar industry, which means they have sold millions of their lose weight quick products. But if you look at today’s society the obesity rate is higher than ever before. Look to be honest you didn’t gain all that weight in a week, and your not going to lose it in a week, it takes hard work and determination.
4. My friend lost weight; why didn't her strategy work for me?Just like everybody’s personalities, and looks are different, so too are our bodies and how they function. That is why a strategy that your friend may use or your cousin may use might not work for you. What you have to do is take the basic guidelines for losing weight and tailor a strategy that will work for your body.
5. How do I get rid of fat from a certain area?I hear this question all the time and unfortunately, the idea of spot training to lose fat in specific spots is a myth. Your body basically tries to take fat away equally from your body and so if you have more around your stomach it will take longer for that fat to be burned off.
6. How long does it take to lose one pound of body fat?Basically in order to lose one pound of body fat your body has to burn off 3,500 calories. That being said if you were to eat 500 less calories a day for 7 days you would lose 1lb a week, if you eat 1000 less a day you would lose 2lb a week. It is important to note however that you should take it slow when dropping your calorie intake because if it is too sudden then your body can go into shock and you may actually start gaining weight.
7. How many calories make a pound of weight? The answer to this is 3,500 calories.
8. I have been overweight all of my life. Do I have to stay this way?Absolutely not, it may be a little harder to get started because of the length of time you have been that way, but if you take the time to analyze and change your eating habits, and exercising habits, you will without a doubt be able to lose weight.
9. I usually skip breakfast, Is this bad?Unfortunately a lot of people do this and the answer is yes. The reason that breakfast is so important is that your body metabolism slows right down at night because you are doing less. In the morning your body needs to be re-fueled and skipping breakfast causes your blood sugar to drop making you feel hungry. This hungry feeling causes us to snack and eat bigger portioned meals, this in essence causes us to gain weight. Eating breakfast actually helps to speed your metabolism back up, and leaves your body feeling full so that your less likely to snack, or gorge at the next meal.
10. Is it better to eat before or after a workout? The answer here is both. The reason is that eating before a workout will help to fill your body’s glycogen, and nutrients stores giving you the energy to be able to complete the exercise. After the workout these stores will have been used up or close to it and need to be replaced again in order to help provide nourishment to your body. Now at the same time I’m not talking about having “meals” I’m talking about small snacks like a fruit or something like that.
11. What about those diets that say you can lose 10lbs a week with no exercise or change in diet? The key item in this question that makes it false is the 10lbs per week. Research has shown that it is not good to lose much more than about 2lbs a week. Anything that is above that is usually causing harm to your body, or is just a very temporary fix, and a waste of your hard earned money. Again your fat didn’t get there that fast, its not going to leave that fast.
12. How long do you have to starve yourself to lose weight?Never! This is not healthy for you, nor does it work effectively. You have to remember that your body is smart; its job is to keep you alive. When you starve yourself, your body goes into survival mode. This means that your body’s metabolism slows right down so as to make sure that the little food you are taking in is spread throughout the day. Since your body does not know when it might get food again it starts preparing for the future by converting some of the food you eat as well into fat and storing it for later use.
